The Greatest Arabic Songs (2000) berisi kumpulan lagu-lagu populer dari dunia Arab. Di album ini bertebaran penyanyi-penyanyi yang sukses di masanya, diantaranya Abdul Majeed Abdullah yang lahir di Al-’Aridah, 18 Agustus 1963. Ia adalah salah satu penyanyi paling populer di dunia Arab. Ada penyanyi yang tak asing lagi, Nawal Al Zoghby, penyanyi Lebanon yang lahir tanggal 29 Juni 1972, di Byblos, Lebanon. Dia memiliki basis penggemar yang kuat di seluruh dunia Arab dan meluas kepada Amerika Utara dan Eropa. Tak ketinggalan, ada Kathem El Saher,  yang dikenal  penyanyi, komposer, dan penyair dari Irak. Ia lahir 12 September 1957. Ia dipuji sebagai legenda sejati musik Arab. Kathem telah menetapkan dirinya sebagai salah satu penyanyi paling sukses dalam sejarah dunia Arab.  Ada juga Amr Diab, penyanyi berkebangsaan Mesir kelahiran Port Said, Mesir pada 11 Oktober 1961.  Dia merupakan penyanyi yang tersukses di Mesir dan Timur Tengah. Ada Najwa Karam, lahir 26 Februari 1966 di Zahle, Lebanon. Ia adalah penyanyi Lebanon. Karier bernyanyi nya dimulai pada akhir 1980. Ia salah satu penyanyi Arab yang paling berhasil dalam berbagai festival dan konser di seluruh dunia.

Ada pula Ragheb Allama, penyanyi dan komposer Lebanon kelahiran 7 Juni 1962, di Beirut, Lebanon.  Alama telah berkarir lebih dari 25 tahun. Ia dianugerahi penghargaan Murex Dor sebagai penyanyi terbaik Arab dan dia memenangkan penghargaan platinum CD sebagai Artis Terbaik Timur Tengah dua kali: 1992 dan 2009.  Ada Ilham Al Madfai, gitaris, penyanyi dan komposer dari Irak. Ia berhasil membuat paduan apik ramuan gitar Barat dengan musik tradisional Irak yang telah membuatnya menjadi artis populer yang dipuja di negara asalnya dan di seluruh Timur Tengah. Ada pula penyanyi Aljazair kelahiran Perancis, Warda Al-Jazairia, yang lahir bulan Juli 1939. Ia dikenal sebagai penyanyi yang berhasil membawakan lagu patriotik Aljazair.

Ada Abdullah Al Rowaishid, penyanyi yang lahir tahun 1961 di Kuwait. Pada tahun 1973, Rowaished mendirikan kelompok Al Roba’y dengan tiga teman. Kelompok ini sangat populer di antara Teluk Persia. Namun, kelompok ini bubar pada tahun 1979, sejak itu Rowaished difokuskan pada nya solo karir. Ada Mohammed El Helani yang lebih dikenal sebagai Assi El Helani, adalah penyanyi  Lebanon yang lahir pada 28 November 1970,  yang populer di dunia musik Timur Tengah sejak tahun 1990. Karir Assi dalam musik mulai tumbuh setelah ia memenangkan Art Studio TV Program bagi seniman muda di usia 17. Ada juga Mostafa Asala Nasri alias Asalah, seorang seniman musik dari Suriah, lahir 15 Mei 1969. Asalah memulai karir musiknya dari lagu anak-anak ketika dia berusia empat tahun. Abdel Hamid Ali Ahmed El Shari, yang dikenal sebagai El Hamid Shaeri, adalah musisi dan penyanyi Libya yang saat ini berada di Mesir. Ia lahir 29 Oktober, 1961. Ia adalah pendiri Musik Jeel. 

Ada juga Mohammad Hisham Mahmoud Abbas Muhammad lahir pada tanggal 13 September 1963 di Kairo,  Mesir. Dia dikenal dengan nama Hisyam Abbas. Dia adalah seorang penyanyi pop terkenal dengan lagu hitnya Nari Narain.  Tak ketinggalan juga, ada George Wassouf, penyanyi  dari Suriah. Dia lahir pada tanggal 23 Desember 1961 di Kafroun, Homs. Ia dikenal sebagai anak ajaib pada waktu kecilnya, untuk bakat artistik dalam menyanyi. Satu lagi nih, Nabeel Shueil, penyanyi Kuwait. Dia dilahirkan tanggal 1 Januari 1962.  Nabeel Shueil (Nabil Shuail) di kenal sebagai penyanyi yang memiliki suara yang sangat unik dan gaya yang khas ketika menyanyi. Musik rock jangan pernah menerima stigmatisasi “satan or devil worshipper” lagi. Karena rock, seperti genre musik lainnya, adalah pesan universal dari pikiran dan perasaan manusia. Musik menjadi medium kegelisahan dan kebahagiaan manusia, dan manusia mengolah keduanya dalam ramuan seni. Tak heran jika musik menjadi bagian dari kebutuhan manusia, tak terkecuali musik rock. Pertengahan tahun 50an, musik rock muncul. Bunyinya yang khas memiliki akar dari blues dan country, mengalami evolusi di akhir tahun 60-an dan awal 70-an, berbaur dalam folk, jazz dan musik klasik. tahun 70an, rock berkembang menjadi berbagai subgenre (sub-kategori) seperti soft rock, glam rock, heavy metal, hard rock, progressive rock, dan punk rock. Sub kategori rock yang muncul ditahun 80an termasuk New Wave, hardcore punk dan alternative rock. Pada tahun 90an terdapat grunge, Britpop, indie rock dan nu metal.

Bio: Cecep Syamsul Hari

As a poet writing in Indonesian, Cecep Syamsul Hari first came to national prominence with his 1996 collection Kenang-kenangan (Remembrance), followed in 2002 with Efrosina (Euphrosyne), reprinted in 2005. He is one of only six Indonesian poets whose poems have been included in (2008) Norton poetry anthology, Language for a New Century: Contemporary Poetry from the Middle East, Asia and Beyond. Apart from his poetry and literary essays, he has published in Indonesian in the newer genre of ficto-criticism novel (2006), Soska.

He has been a prolific translator of literary works into Indonesian, with book publications of selected works by Pablo Neruda (1996), D.J. Enright (1996), R.K. Narayan (2002). He also translated Summarized Sahih Al-Bukhari (first edition 2007, reprinted almost every years since then), 100 Hungarian poems (2009), etc. He was Writer-in-Residence in Korea Literature Translation Institute (KLTI), South Korea (2006), Rimbun Dahan Arts Residency, Malaysia (2007), Hungarian Translators House, Hungary (2009), Bundanon Trust Artists Center, Australia (2009).
